The Work That Reconnects is known worldwide for empowering activists in social and ecological justice. Developed by Joanna Macy and her colleagues, this dynamic, interactive body of work has inspired many thousands of people to engage wholeheartedly in the Great Turning to a life-sustaining society. Described in the book Coming Back to Life, it brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten all life on Earth.

In East Oakland in 2012, Joanna Macy offered an experimental training designed to bring the Work That Reconnects into communities of color. Now a more fully developed program will run from January through June 2014. It blends conceptual content with experiential processes essential to facilitating the Work That Reconnects.

This training will be enriched by the presence and teachings of Patricia St. Onge, founder of Seven Generations Consulting and Coaching and of Nafsi ya Jamii, an urban farm and retreat center in East Oakland. Of Haudenosaunee (Mohawk) and Quebecois descent, Patricia is a member of an indigenous grandmothers' circle.  Lead author of Embracing Cultural Competency, she will provide a cultural lens to explore how the Work that Reconnects can bring out the unique perspectives and strengths of communities of color.

If you are a person of color interested in this training with the intent to bring it to communities of color, we invite you to apply.

The training program consists of 5 weekend workshops February – June, led by Joanna Macy, and ten Wednesday evening meetings with Patricia St. Onge. In order to build a strong, cohesive learning community, participants are asked to commit to attending ALL of the weekends, as well as the semi-monthly Wednesday evenings.

Full time participation is required. Space is limited to 20 participants. To apply, please fill out the on-line application.
