In May 2003 we organized an expedition to a village located about 15 minutes by car from Novozybkov. Earlier Svjatsk was a big settlement of about 9000 people. Now there is a high level of radioactive pollution here. People have left this village.

Some of the people remained to live in Svijatsk. They have no family. They plant vegetables on the small kitchen gardens, collect berries and mushrooms. We have presented them one dosimeter. They were happy. Maria Petrunina reads our instruction on use of radio-dosimeter.

NGO VIOLA held a practical seminar for young school teachers in Novozybkov. The new branch of the Pedagogical University opened here in 1995. The young teachers studied radiation meters.
